In most cases it is easy to get over the fear by following the basic principles of good communications. However, in some cases the stress caused is so high that self help doesn't work effectively.

Overcome Fear of Public Speaking

It is no secret that fear of public speaking is number one hurdle for your continued rapid growth towards the top positions in companies where you work , clubs where you are member, politics and numerous other professions.

Teachers, lawyers and attorneys have no choice but to speak in public. if they can do it so can you.

Believe it on not, the best way to overcome the fear is to face it! Yes, just do it! What will happen? You may fail. So what, try again and again until you succeed.

This is easier said than done. The biggest hurdle for an adult to just do it, is his reputation. It is easy for a child to get up and do it and if he fails he can be motivated to do it again and again until he succeeds

For an executive, it is difficult to take chances. So he will prepare hard, he will do many rehearsals and will feel relaxed only after he/she has finished making that dreaded speech or presentation.

She/he can't afford to fail in front of colleagues and seniors. So normally the strategy will be to either avoid whenever possible or if forced to do it then reluctantly do it with lots of pressure before and during the speech. Many people have sleepless nights after they are asked to make a speech and can't sleep well until after the speech is delivered.

This is torture. Yes they torture themselves. If you are one of those who torture himself/herself then wake up and take corrective action.

It is easy. Much easier than you think!

As an adult the best advice that can be given is to get a coach and learn Public Speaking. Do it on priority. May be you have been procrastinating or didn't know where to go and fix it.
Even if you get a bad coach, you still have made some progress.

Following tips will help you get over your fear of public speaking:

  1. Remain focused on your subject. Decide a key message and build your story around it.
  2. Add some personal story to it
  3. Include a statistical data to highlight the issue and give people a good perspective.

Now initially your speeches may be shorter because you still have fear. Once you know that you could do the above and practice the same principle in every speech, you will become more comfortable.

If none of these tips work in your case then go and get a coach! Or look for any other resources for help - Take action now!
